Meanings:

which we know how it is going to end up.
Examples:
If you
have to chose between 20 jackets that are not wrapped, you will chose the one
you like most, because you have enough information to chose (meaning 1).
When a person chooses (with a
reason or will) something, he/she doesn't chose randomly (meaning 1).
"Not by chance I went to the
swimming pool". It was not by chance, because I was willing to go to the
swimming pool (meaning 1)
I did not answer randomly to
the questions because I had studied a lot (meaning 2)
Marco was chosen for the role
of Peter Pan, because he was the best (meaning 1)
